The PlayStation 2 is a console that has left us with many titles that have become classics. With this console, we got to know GTA Vice City and San Andreas, franchises like God of War and Final Fantasy X, among others. Do you want to play them again? In Google Play, there are different PlayStation emulators for Android, so you can do it from your mobile device.

DamonPS2 is currently the most popular PlayStation 2 emulator for Android. Users have criticized the app because of the excessive amount of ads and its poor performance. Do you know of a better alternative? AetherSX2 is a new Android emulator that aims to become the best choice for those who want to play PS2 games on their phones.

What is AetherSX2 APK?

AetherSX2 is an emulator for Android designed by a developer in his spare time. It is completely free and is still under development. Its creator published on GitHub information about the technical details of this emulator, which, as you can see in the video above, runs Gran Turismo 4 superbly.

The emulator needs a BIOS image to start, which is one of the most important requirements. A BIOS? We're talking about the basic boot system of the device. To use AetherSX2, you must extract the BIOS from your PlayStation 2 and load it to the mobile. On the Internet there are many tutorials on how to do this procedure, although it is evident that many users cannot utilize it. What else will you need to use this emulator? We'll explain everything.

The emulation scene for PlayStation 2 has just seen the arrival of a new contender. AetherSX2 is a PS2 emulator that runs on Android devices, and is set to be released in the near future. AetherSX2 was developed by a new developer named Tahlreth, and although very little is known about how it came to be, certain YouTubers have been given an alpha version to show off the emulator's performance. Devil May Cry, Shadow of the Colossus, God of War, and Final Fantasy X are among the games shown off, even running at good frame rates. The emulator is said to perform well with phones with Snapdragon SoCs, and has wide compatibility with the PS2's library.

What are the requirements?

Even today, the PS2(TM) is a very powerful piece of hardware, with many very complex components. To achieve good performance, you need a high-end device.

At least a Snapdragon 845-equivalent device is recommended. It has four large cores (Cortex-A75). As a result, performance will suffer if you only have two big cores (e.g. Snapdragon 700 series SoCs). Mali or PowerVR GPUs will work with the app, but performance will be much lower than Adreno GPUs, and the Vulkan renderer will not be supported. There is a critical feature missing (dual-source blending).

You can try the app on a slower device, but games will run slowly, especially heavy titles. You can try to underclock the CPU by setting the cycle rate to a negative number, and the cycle skip to a positive number in System settings, but this will cause games to lag internally at best, or crash at worst.
